Lessons From a Shepherd PT 6

Psalms 23 ESV

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23 ESV

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

He’s with us at all times

I lay down my life for the sheep

The shadow of a sword can’t cut and the shadow of a snake can’t bite.

Verse 5 says

He prepares a table before us “in” the presence of our enemy.

2 Kings 18 ESV

32 And do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” 33 Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 34 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 35 Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”

He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemy.

He anoints my head with oil:

A. Favor and anointing for the moment

B. Protection from torment.

My cup runs over.

In this life:

Goodness and mercy follow me.

In the next life:

I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever:
